Reading-speed research consistently lands adult silent reading at 200 to 300 words per minute on moderately complex material. 250 is the middle of that range and the industry default for lede labels and reading-time estimates.

Speaking pace: 130 wpm

The National Center for Voice and Speech puts average conversational English at 150 wpm. Presentation pace runs slower, 120 to 140. 130 is the default for the speaking-time chip; slide it to match your voice.

Podcast pace: 160 wpm

Sustained podcast delivery lands 150 to 170 wpm. Audiobook narration runs slightly slower, 140 to 160. This is a working default; the wpm slider adjusts.
