How the pixel width is measured
The counter draws your title into a hidden canvas using the same font Google uses in SERP results (Arial 20px in most templates), then measures the rendered width. Titles above 580 px will get truncated with an ellipsis; the readout warns you as you approach the ceiling.
Writing rules that fit 580 pixels
- Primary keyword at the front of the title.
- Brand at the end, after a pipe or dash.
- Sentence case reads warmer than Title Case in SERP.
- Do not stuff modifiers. One benefit or one qualifier is enough.

Common questions
Why does Google rewrite my title?
When the pixel-width fit is poor, the title is duplicative, or the H1 is more descriptive, Google may substitute a rewritten title. Meeting the pixel budget reduces rewrite risk.
Do mobile SERPs use the same limit?
Mobile SERPs sometimes fit slightly less. Design for 580 px and mobile still displays well.
